Divorce vs. Dissolution

Dissolution of marriage hinges on a complete agreement of the parties.

To file a petition for dissolution, the parties must reach a complete agreement on all issues
that apply:

  • Division of marital property.
  • Identification of all separate property.
  • Spousal support.
  • Allocation of parental rights and responsibilities.
  • Child support.

If the parties are unable to reach an agreement on their own, they may choose to seek the help of a mediator or to engage in a collaborative divorce.

People who are unable to reach agreements on all the issues file a Complaint for Divorce.  The Court will then issue decisions resolving the parties’ disputes.
